The Easley Chamber of Commerce held the 3rd Thursday luncheon meeting September 16, 2010, at Dunburks Premier Events. SC Rep. Phil Owens, Chairman of the SC House Education & Public Works Committee, spoke to a large group of chamber members and guests with a broad summary of the 2010 Legislative year and the upcoming 2011 legislative year.
As chairman of the house education committee he spoke about the status of education in SC including charter schools, teacher pay & retention, length of school year, education funding, and the extremely challenging economic conditions over the last couple of years. Rep Owens explained the amendments that the voters will be asked to vote on in November. A question and answer period followed.
