Foothills Retirement Community To Expand Health Center

Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina announced plans today for the expansion of the Foothills Retirement Community located in Easley where a new wing of 26 beds will be added to the existing health center. Project cost will be approximately $1.8 million thus bringing the community’s health services capacity to a total of 44 beds.

At a groundbreaking ceremony today, an enthusiastic crowd of trustees, residents, staff and supporters braved an extremely warm July morning to celebrate against a back drop of bulldozers preparing the construction site.

In welcoming remarks, Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina President, Kathy Ligon spoke of the vision, leadership and financial stability needed to undertake such a project that she called “the most important expansion of the Foothills Community.” Ligon also said that in addition to serving more residents, the new health center wing offers opportunity for expanded Medicare and therapy programs. She recognized and thanked past and present members of the Board of Trustees, residents, local community leaders and many other friends and supporters who have been committed to the organization’s mission and purpose as a “Christian Ministry Dedicated To Enriching The Quality Of Life For Seniors Of All Faiths.”

Marsh Bell Construction Company of Piedmont, SC has already begun site work on the approximately 10,000 SF expansion and construction is expected to be complete in May 2011.

The Foothills Retirement Community is one of five continuing care retirement communities of Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina with other locations in Clinton, Columbia, Florence and Summerville. It has served older adults for over 50 years with the opening of the Summerville Community in 1958.
