The Powdersville Council of the Easley Chamber of Commerce had a good showing at the first Saluda River Kayak Rally in June. A fleet of Grady’s kayaks were on hand to welcome those new to the water sport. Sponsored by Anderson County Parks and Recreation, there was no cost for the event.
On Saturday, June 5th, they transported individuals 2.6 miles upstream and put in a the Saluda River Kayak club entrance and participants paddled and floated downstream to be taken out at the Dolly Cooper Sports Complex. On Sunday, kayakers paddled 9.2 miles from Dolly Cooper to the Town of Piedmont. The event offered early exposure to 12 miles of a 43 mile corridor development plan. Approximately 150 people participated in kayaks during the event.
Eight booths were on site at the Dolly Cooper Park with the Powdersville Council booth giving away bottled water, koozies, cookies/crackers, and chamber literature to attending kayakers. Powdersville council members also participated in the kayak run.
