Between the Bun Bistro owners Jan Batson Childers and Ron Walter are joining forces with father-son restaurateurs Jimmy and Eric Bikas of the popular Aunt Sue’s Country Corner, to open a second BTB Bistro on Main Street in Pickens. Taking over the site formerly occupied by Sassafras, the new partners have targeted an August opening for their new 100-seat location.
“We’re looking forward to expanding our operation and feel that Pickens is the perfect place to grow,” says Mr. Walter “We are especially pleased to be working in association with Aunt Sue’s and Jimmy and Eric Bikas.”
The original Between the Bun store at 5823 Calhoun Memorial Highway in Easley which opened May 1, 2006, and Aunt Sue’s Country Corner on Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway (SC Highway 11) in Pickens will continue as separate entities.
The Pickens location, like the original BTB Bistro will be a full-service restaurant with both in-house and take-out service. Deliveries will be offered for orders for six or more.
In addition to its extensive menu of sandwiches, like the popular Karson’s Favorite Roast Beef Bun, with sliced beef, havarti with Catalina/1000 Island Spread served on a pretzel bun, the Carolina Apple Turkey Sandwich, (Roasted Turkey, Apple Butter, Pepper Jack Cheese and fresh Granny Smith Apples on Grilled Wheatberry Bread) and The Godfather of All Buns (ham, cappicola, salami, pepperoni, provolone, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato and onion topped with fresh basil and Italian dressing on French bread).
“We will continue our menu of vegetarian sandwiches and Wraps, as well as our popular salad entrees,” Ms. Childers adds, noting that they plan to continue their weekly specials – pork tenderloin, prime rib and the Friday-night favorite shrimp and grits – and such Sunday specials as quiches and oven-fried chicken with macaroni and cheese and green beans. Both locations will feature fresh soups and desserts daily.
The Bun’s catering menu includes custom box lunches, sandwiches, salads and sides. As in the past, picnics and tail-gaiting spreads can be ordered in advance and picked up on the way to the lake or stadium.
