Mary’s Closet Holds Ribbon Cutting
The Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Marys Closet located at 716 South Pendleton Street in Easley. MARYS Closet is a divine continuation of the work that God is doing at MARYS House, the domestic violence shelter in Pickens County. “The Closet”, as it is affectionately known by the volunteers, started as a vision by three ladies with a heart for women who are hurting. The vision for MARYS Closet has been changed and molded by praying women who were willing to let God make it what He wanted it to be. It started as a six day Christmas Shop in which $1,100.00 was raised for MARYS House. The three visionaries, Mari Lou Banks, Libby Dalton, and Venetta Berenz tossed around the idea of turning the Christmas shop success into a consignment shop for furniture, then clothes, and it eventually became a donation driven resale shop. The women who donate to MARYS Closet do so from the abundance of what they have been blessed.
MARYS Closet ministers to the women of Pickens County in a very unique way. First, MARYS Closet is available to meet the needs of the women who may be staying in the MARYS House shelter. MARYS Closet helps these women find suitable clothing for church, court hearings, and job interviews. The Closet also helps women who are being mentored by the women from Christian Women Job Corp, as well as anyone who is brought to the attention of the MARYS Closet volunteers. Monday through Wednesday, appointments are set up to minister and meet the needs of these women, so that they can have a private, one-on-one experience at MARYS Closet. Thursday through Saturday, MARYS Closet is open to the public, as it sells out of the tremendous abundance that has been given. MARYS Closet also takes donations of men’s and children’s items and these items are given to ministries that are working with the respective needs of men and children. It is amazing to watch miracles happen and lives being changed through the divine resale of MARYS Closet. For information call 420-4369.
