Images of America: Easley has arrived just in time for Christmas gifts. It is on sale for $22 at the Easley Chamber of Commerce at 2001 E. Main Street. Beginning as a project from the chamber’s Tourism and Communications program of work last year, a committee of Dub Fortner, Jim Stewart, Jack Ragsdale, Kent Dykes, and Vicki Fletcher selected local journalist Brantli Jane Owens as the author of the book.
Photographs were provided by residents Mary Robinson, Newell Hester, Lib Oates, Dub Fortner, Jack Ragsdale, Angie Sheriff, the Hagood Family, the Owens family, the Byars family, Marie May, “Slick” Magah, and Cam Surrett. The Kimberly Hampton Library of the Pickens County Library System, the Easley Progress and Pickens Sentinel also made contributions of photos.
Brantli Owens followed the beginning of Easley in 1873 as a railroad stop to a town comprised of several interdependent mill villages – each with its own culture, the churches, schools, downtown Easley, and the families and finally to the thriving city of today – rich in history and full of promise for a great future.
Other local businesses and chamber members selling the Images of America: Easley are: Bower’s School Supply, Mt. View Antiques, T.C. Berries Hallmark, Newton’s Ace Hardware, Poor Richard’s Book Store, Something Special, Rhapsody’s, and Walgreens.
