Just in time for the Big League Baseball World Series the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce introduced an 8-page relocation and tourism guide for Easley and Pickens County. It gives an overview of Easley and the county with a short history of Easley.
The relocation section has important phone numbers of schools, hospitals, police, fire, city and county administration, apartments, YMCA, library, and other key areas. The local public and private schools are also listed.
There is a map of Easley with some local restaurants highlighted as well as all the local motels. The chamber building is starred on the map, as it is a tourism center to obtain additional information. The Pickens County map spotlights the lakes and parks, the waterfalls, and many of the historical sites in the county.
“We have not had a tourist brochure of our area since the early 1990’s and we have the need for it.” stated Kent Dykes, President of the Chamber. “Pickens County is an untouched gem for tourism in the upstate and we must do a better job in promotion our beautiful county. Tourism has the potential to be a major employer in the county and a source of economic development. This brochure is another major initiative of the chamber of this much needed promotion.”
Cases of the Easley brochures have been sent to all nine (9) of the South Carolina Welcome Centers coming into the state. They have also been sent to the Greenville and to the Anderson Convention and Visitors Centers, the Pickens museum, library, as well as all local motels and key locations.
Glenn Brills, Executive Director of the Anderson Convention and Tourism Bureau stated, “The brochure is quite attractive and well designed. It gives the visitor a lot of good information in a surprisingly small package.”
Amos Harper, Manager of the South Carolina Welcome Center at Fairplay said, “The Easley/Pickens brochure is very colorful and has eye appeal. We are displaying it in a prominent area of the visitor’s center.” Jo McGuire, Travel Counselor at the Fairplay SC Visitors’ center added, “We are sending people in your direction based on the nice brochure you have provided for us.”
Debbie Bentley, Travel Counselor at the South Carolina Welcome center in Hardeeville, SC said, “The brochures are moving quickly with visitors. They are very colorful.”
The visitor’s brochure was designed by Brian Spears of Discovery Media and printed by Martin Printing in Easley. It was funded by the city of Easley and Pickens County. 10,000 copies were printed and it is anticipated that a reorder will be needed in less that a year at the rate they are being used.
Earlier in the year the chamber introduced the Tour Pickens County DVD video, which has been in high demand. Over 6,000 visits have been made online to the TourPickensCounty.com website since its creation in March 2007.
