Local Pharmacist Creates Customized Medications at Custom-Med Compounding Pharmacy
The Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Custom-Med Compounding Pharmacy. Custom-Med Compounding Pharmacy specializes in compounding, which is the pharmacy method of preparing medications to meet unique physician and patient needs. Working with a physician, pharmacists John Holland and Lucy Bain, prepare a “customized” medication in a special compounding laboratory, using the latest techniques and devices.
With a physician’s consent, a compounding pharmacist can change the strength of a medication, alter the form to make it easier for the patient to take, or add flavor. The pharmacist can also prepare the medication using several unique delivery systems, such as a lollipop, gel, cream, ointment, lip balm, suppository, nasal spray, or a lozenge that is placed under the tongue. Or, for those patients who are have a difficult time swallowing a capsule or tablet, a liquid form can be made instead.
They have an extensive line of high quality vitamins and nutritional supplements as well as informative books on subjects such as bio-identical hormone replacement, thyroid disorders, adrenal fatigue, and vitamins. In home saliva tests for hormones are available. Their services include an emphasis on bio-identical hormone replacement and non-narcotic pain relief. They will work with parents and their children’s doctor to provide an easier way to give medicine, including compounded lollipops, flavored liquids, and creams that are applied to the skin. Veterinarians and pet owners can also request customized medications to fit individual pet’s needs, such as animal-friendly flavors and creams that are applied inside the ear.
A public seminar to give information about bio-identical hormone therapy will be held on May 18th at Clemson Presbyterian Church and on May 25th at Custom-Med Compounding Pharmacy. Please call for details and reservations.
Custom-Med Compounding Pharmacy also provides generic medications at prices that are often lower than insurance co-pays. Most medications are dispensed in 100 count bottles to decrease trips to the pharmacy and lower patient cost. Prescriptions for generic drugs can be filled while you wait-typically in less than 20 minutes. If no generic is available, they can order the brand name drug at a competitive price. For a limited time, if a customer refers someone else to the pharmacy, both will receive a 10% discount on their next prescription purchase.
Custom-Med Compounding Pharmacy is located at 838 Powdersville Rd, Suite D in Easley. Their business hours are Monday-Friday from 9:30-5:30. The phone number is 855-2323.
