Duke Sandwich Company Ribbon Cutting
The Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Duke Sandwich Company, a one-of-a-kind, family-owned and operated business, on Monday, February 13, 2006. A family-based company that began in 1917, and is still in existence after all these years had a great appeal to Jan Childress. A company until 2004 had only existed in Greenville. Such a well-kept secret that has begun to grow with the Childress’s becoming the second franchise of the company.
The original Duke Sandwich Shop will remain the flagship for the company. “We have customers who have eaten with us every day, sixdays a week for 15 years, says Curtis Taylor, Chief Operating Officer, for Dukes. Beth Covil, Manager of Dukes in Easley is looking for those same types of customers. “Dukes are all about building relationships with family, with customers and employees,” says Beth. Beth Covil is the daughter of Ed Childress.
Jan Childress, owner, is the wife of leading businessman Ed Childress. They are longtime residents of Easley. “We are excited to be a part of a family-based business that is open six days a week, closed on Sundays, which fits right into our beliefs,” says Jan. Dukes in Easley is truly a family-run business. Pat Covil, husband of Beth, also manages Dukes. Pat comes with experience in the fast-food industry and has moved his family to the area to be apart of the organization. On any given day you might see Jan’s father, Papa T.J. delivering, or Brandi Childress, daughter, waiting tables. Dukes offer numerous services to its customers. Caterings are available. Corporate accounts are also a large part of the business for Dukes. The same concept that began in 1920 is still available today. Any company wishing to set up daily delivery may do so. Dukes continues to improve their menu by listening to their customers. A number of homemade deserts and soups have been added to the menu.
To meet your needs call or stop by Dukes Sandwich Company located at 5075 Calhoun Memorial Hwy (next to the Easley Theaters) or call for your catering or take-out needs at 306-7773. Any companies wishing to set up daily deliveries, or other interests, contact Beth Covil at 306-7773.
