“A Cup Above” Holds Ribbon Cutting
A Cup Above celebrated its grand opening and ribbon cutting with The Easley Chamber of Commerce on Monday, January 23rd, 2006. The coffee shop is located in the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library in Easley.
A Cup Above coffee shop is operated by the Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs to provide supervised employment opportunities for people with disabilities in the community as well as to increase public awareness. This is an opportunity for individuals to meet people, develop their money handling abilities, to learn and develop new skills, and reach their full potential.
Elaine Thena, PCBDSN Executive Director said, “Employment opportunities are very limited at this time in our area. This, of course, makes it even harder for people with disabilities and special needs to find a job. We have very enthusiastic individuals that are eager to prove that they can do a good job, just like everyone else. We want to continue to see doors open for the people we serve, and the opening of this coffee shop has been a wonderful way for individuals to show their abilities and for the community to see what a contribution that people with disabilities and special needs can make.”
The coffee shop is open Monday thru Friday; serving coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, bottled drinks, sandwiches, soup, pastries and assorted snack items. The coffee shop also caters for meetings in the library. “We want your business. Please stop by and visit us or call 420-9691 for information to have your next meeting at the library catered by “A Cup Above.”
